Diploma in Career Guidance and Development



This qualification is co-developed by College of Career Guidance and ABMA Education UK https://abma.uk.com whose purpose is to address the training needs of career guidance personnel in different settings (schools, colleges, tertiary institutions, universities, non-governmental, faith and community-based organizations, special needs institutions, as well as companies).

The Diploma combines academic and practical skills through work-related learning to enable trainees become career guidance and development professionals. These professionals are expected to support their clients in activities that lead to career identification, exploration, decision making and application of skills across lifespan. It has 16 units which are divided into  4 trimesters of 4 units each as shown:

      • Core to Career Guidance (14 units)
      • Academic Research Methods (1 unit)
      • Internship (1 unit)

 

 

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with key concepts, functions, role and scope of counselling in career guidance. It helps students apply counselling skills and approaches to deal with various career issues.

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to help him/her provide information to their clients on concepts of career mentoring and its processes. This is in order for these clients to learn how to integrate academic learning with real world experiences; identify career paths and support system for personal growth.as well as practice professional networking skills.

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to help him/her provide information on how to advice and guide their clients navigate transitions in education, work and life roles. This may involve guiding them in academic and personal interests, abilities and values they are considering so that they can set their academic and career goals accordingly.

The purpose of this unit to equip the trainee with skills to understand the place of career assessments in career journeys. The unit equips students with skills to choose appropriate assessments for their clients, administer, interpret and guide clients at different stages of their lives.

Summative Assessment for Trimester 1 Cohort 1 January - April 2022

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with necessary knowledge; skills, values and attitudes that will enable him/her plan start, and manage a lifelong process of managing learning, work, leisure, and transitions in order to move toward a personally determined and evolving preferred future.

This purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will enable him/her to comprehend and delve into the underlying theories of career guidance practice, assumptions, implications and applications in different settings. It gives the trainee an opportunity to analyse various theories vis-a-vis past and present experiences.

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainees with knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in career guidance competencies needed to assist individuals make and implement informed educational and occupational choices. These competences also assist professionals in supporting individuals advance their careers and deal with workplace issues.

The purpose of this unit is to equip the trainee with skills to analyse the place of career information competency in the context of career development. It equips trainees with skills to source, collect, analyse and organise educational and labour market information in line with the 21st Century trends, and the requirements of the global economy
